Our Maryland Wear & Carry Permit Training is designed to meet all state requirements and provide students with comprehensive, instructor-guided range training. This one-on-one course is ideal for those seeking a personalized experience with flexible scheduling and enhanced shooting time. Upon completing this 16-hour, two-day course, students will gain the certification required to obtain a Maryland Wear & Carry Permit, including the Handgun Qualification License (HQL) for firearm purchase.
Course Highlights:
- Individualized Instruction: Get personalized guidance with hands-on range time tailored to your needs.
- In-depth Curriculum: Covers Maryland’s state-required course material, gun safety, carry procedures, the application process, legal issues, and use-of-force principles.
Course Includes:
- Certificate upon successful completion
- One-hour personalized firearm instruction session ($125 value)
- Targets, ammunition, and use of eye and ear protection
- Firearm for range training (students are welcome to bring personal firearms)
Live-Fire Qualification:
- Students must complete a 25-round course at a distance no further than 15 yards, achieving at least 70% accuracy during the live-fire qualification.
Schedule:
- Day 1: Classroom session in Suitland, MD.
- Day 2: One-hour instructor-led training at Maryland Small Arms Range, including:
- Range Safety Briefing
- Course of Fire Practice
- Live-Fire Qualification
- Additional classroom time in Suitland, MD.

I recently took the MD Wear and Carry Permit Training One-on-One Gun Class led by NRA-Certified Instructor (Tony Hart), and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The class was professional, informative, and incredibly empowering. From the moment we started, he emphasized safety, responsibility, and proper handling which is something I really appreciated.
What stood out most was the instructor’s depth and knowledge and ability to explain concepts in a way that made me feel comfortable, regardless of my experience level (beginner). For those of you thinking of taking a class, note…whether you’re a complete beginner or have prior experience Tribe Defense Academy will make sure everyone is learning at the right pace.
The hands-on portion was especially valuable. I was given clear, step-by-step guidance on stance, aiming, and trigger control. The feedback was constructive and confidence-building. By the end of the class I felt significantly more comfortable and competent with a firearm.
